Aaron Ramsey

The 28 year old Welsh midfielder has joined Juventus on a free transfer and is arguably one of the buys of the summer already. One of the best in the world for the role he plays, Ramsey will add tremendous quality to Juventus.

Ramsey plays largely in a box-to-box central midfield role. Known for his perfectly timed runs into the box Ramsey utilises this to create scoring opportunities. In the 2013/14 season he scored 16 times and assisted a further 10 times for Arsenal. Very impressive.

Ramsey has many great attributes which will bring great benefit to Juventus, particularly his high work-rate in both attack and defence and particularly his ability to run with the ball which will help Juventus avoid struggling against a side which presses.

This past season Ramsey had extremely limited minutes at Arsenal due to his contract situation with the club. However, he still managed 6 goals and 6 assists for the club starting only 20 games. Highlighting his offensive capabilities.

Ramsey is extremely well suited to the short-passing system which Maurizio Sarri likes to use. The midfielfer averaged 34 passes per game and completed at 83.1%. He also had 1 key pass per game.

Defensively Ramsey is just as good. This prior season he had 1.2 tackles per game as well as 0.4 intercepts. A useful asset to have.

Although his statistics don’t seem anything world-class. Ramsey’s effect on the pitch is extremely well known. Prior to his injury against Napoli, Arsenal won 7 of their 8 games in that time with Ramsey in the side. Following his injury, they only won 3 from 8. Big difference. Injuries have largely been the cause of Ramsey being unable to put up the consistent world-class numbers he is capable of like we saw in 2013/14. However, with a change of club it could help Ramsey stay fit due to a different medical team and approach to physical conditioning.

Where will he fit in Sarri’s team? Ramsey will likely occupy the left-midfielder role, meaning he will be relied upon for goals, similar to the role Marek Hamsik had for Napoli under Sarri. A role for which he is very well suited for considering his attributes.

Overall, this is a phenomenal signing for Juventus and I expect Ramsey to cement himself as one of the best in Europe for his position over the next several seasons if he can stay fit. An fine all round midfielder, Ramsey will bring great quality to Juventus.
